Using the link provided to you below, watch the video Kardaryl recommended to the class by Timothy de la Getto. As you watch, think about the following questions and answer them in your post:
1) How is he addressing the effects of patriarchy in his rap?
2) How does he also reinforce patriarchy? What are the limits or short-comings of his argument?
3) Why does he put it all on young women and our individual choices to believe the media? Do you agree with this, or disagree with it? Who is more responsible for the damage that media does to young women's self-esteem, the media, or young women?

Timothy de la Ghetto shows patriarchy by mentioning where women try to look good to impress a male. He also says that women usually have abusive men that will beat them and make them insecure about themselves. Timothy argues that women get brainwashed by media to look a certain way. For example the image he used. In the image the girl is thin but in her head she see herselfs thick or not good enough. I believe media has the blame for lowering all age womens self-esteem. Through advertisements women that people think are beautiful are shown as the example towards other women which brainwashes the women and makes them want to have that 'beautiful' image. Media uses logo, ethos and pathos to catch the womens attention and change thier point of view.
ReplyDelete1) Timothy de la ghetto addresses patriarchy saying how the girl get black eyes from he boyfriend nd still wont break up with him.
ReplyDelete2) He say how they use make up to cover up their black eyes because their man make them feel insecure .
3) HE puts it all on the media because they lie to young girl and make them believe in the wrong things. I personally feel like it's the young girls fault because they choose what they want want although the media influences it these girls should be strong enough to think for themselves
Hey! So Timothy De La Ghetto is addressing the effects of patriarchy when he raps about girls who are 'insecure' about themselves. As he starts rapping, he introduces the topic of girls who are insecure. He starts, "I just realize that the prettiest girls are the most insecure ones." This opinion is somewhow biased, because it is only his perspective, of criticizing a whole group of girls (you have to consider that he is from the oppposite gender and sex). On the other hand, he is using paradox in his video. He reinforces patriarchy by talking about how girls react in a abusive relationship. He says, "She used to be so pure but she gave the intercourse, To a dude that's abusive cuz she feels so insecure." This means that she is dependent of a guy because she wants to be SOMEBODY, but the guy is the one who should have authority anyways. Which brings up to the last question...and breaks through it. I think that De La Ghetto is putting all his critique towards skinny girls to take off the blame from the men. I don't agree that this is a good thing. I would say that the fault is with the companies that allow the media to put junk for advertisements, the advertisement makers, and our people who hide the truth. One example shows that our own environment and the media communications shake us off our identity in the end of his rap. Timothy finishes with "Cuz when her eyes are black and blue she covers it with make up, The companies be lyin just so they can get they cake up." You know, a woman has other options than to wear make up. I know this because I see that not everyone hides what they've gone through. We are taking sbout all people here now. Just take this thought with you if you may "Should we be fake at all in our beauty and/or personality?"
ReplyDeleteI disagree with nancy
ReplyDeletei agree with tirsa he talks about how the companies lie and how there not only doing that to make money but how bad its lowering womens self esteem and how bad the affect is there are millions of girls that die every year due to anrexia and alot of girls have died by trying to look beautiful just because the media only has one image of beautful and i think the media is to blame because if the media wouldnt target only one group of women as beautiful there would be alot less insecuritys and the problem with girls not been happy of the way they look wouldnt be so serious
ReplyDelete1. when he said girls get black eyes from their boyfriends
ReplyDelete2. i dont understand limits?
3. i feel they its both women and men fault for the damage of women's self-esteem because the men say what they like of a woman and the women tries to be what the men say they like.
- Timothy De La Ghetto Shows Patriarchy By Mentioning Where Women Try To Look Good To Impress Male / Males. He Also Talks About An Abbusive Relationship. Timothy De La Ghetto Argues That Women Are Being Brainwashed By The Magazines / The Media In General So They Could Look A Certain Way. For Example The Image The Girl Is Thin But In Her Mind / What She See's Is She's Thick / Fat. I Believe That The Media Is The Most To Blame Because It Lowers Down Girls Self Esteem And How They See Thierself And Once They See Thier Self And Feel Bad About Them Self They Try To Be Like The Women Being Portrayed Threw Out The Media.
ReplyDelete- I Agree With Tirsa Because The Media Does Use Logo's, Etho's, & Pethos. To Catch Women Attention. I Also Agree With Stacy Because They Lie / Brainwash Girls Into Buy Thier Product So They Can Change Themselves Or What Not But What The Company Is Actually Doing Is Lowering Down Thier Self Esteem And What Thier Doing For Thier Company Is Just Making A Profit Out Of That.
